Sentimental Sunday The Hero's Favorite Food

I was fixing lunch for my sister-in-law.  She said I will eat a peanut butter jelly sandwich.  That brought a memory back.
The Hero LOVED peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He used to "bug" me, because I would make a 'gourmet' meal and what would he do?...He would have to make a peanut butter jelly sandwich afterwards or the meal was not complete. I would say "I am so insulted, I worked so hard on this meal and you don't think it tastes good without a peanut butter sandwich."  Then I would pout and he would give me a smile, a kiss and finish his sandwich. For him, a meal was just not done until you had a PBJ.
I wish I had a picture of him with a PBJ. He had a special technique for making his PBJ sandwich.
The first step was to put butter (real butter) on the bread.
The second step was to add the peanut butter.
The third step was to add jelly.

The final step was to eat it all up.

Our grandson decided that butter definitely added a great "eatable" flavor.
Which would you prefer? With or without butter?

  1. Well, I can't judge how a PBJ with butter would taste, but I do add butter to my bagel with cream cheese. Butter is great stuff and makes almost anything taste even better.

  2. No butter, the name is peanut butter and jelly, as in PB&J.

Not butter, peanut butter and jelly, that would be a BPB&J

    Cute story.

  3. No butter for me, thanks - I don't like butter and jam together, unless it's peanut butter! :-)

  4. You forgot about his gourmet peanut butter sandwiches that he taught me how to make. You butter both sides and fry one side and then spread peanut butter and bananas on that to make the inside. Then fry the outside. Super Gourmet his said is making the peanut butter spread with peanut butter and honey and chocolate chips. I was pregant with John at the time during that hospital converstion in Galveston and promptly went home and made myself one. Talk about delectable! Dad's love for the stuff definitely went in my genes.

  5. Now THAT sounds like a Gourmet Sandwich that would suit me! Am I allowed to have it hot with ice cream?

  6. Enjoyed reading your post and the comments about real butter. I love PB&J sandwiches, but have never heard of putting butter on it. If Hero hadn't used butter, then this wouldn't be that interesting, so, I'm glad he liked butter on his.
